The Gallocanta Lagoon, placed at Southwetern Aragón, is an unique wetland where we can find a wide variety of waterfowl. During the last years, the fame of this fresh water lagoon keep increasing as the area host impressive numbers of Common Cranes from mid November to mid March.

This tour offers you a good way to enjoy this Crane spectacular while having time for a long list of steppe specialities including both Pin-tailed & Black-bellied Sandgrouses, Dupont’s Lark, Great Bustard, Lesser Short-toed Lark, Black Wheatear, Spanish Sparrow along with a good variety of birds of prey and waterfowl.

Day 1. Early morning start in Barcelona. In our way to Gallocanta we my have a first stop with a first change for Great Bustards, Sandgrouses, Golden Eagle, Hen Harrier and other goodies. Arrival to the lagoon by early afternoon to explore some corners of the lagoon where massive flocks of Common Cranes can be seen at close range. Along with them we can expect a good variety of Ducks but also chances for Zitting Cisticola, Short-eared Owl, Spanish Sparrow, Calandra Lark and Eurasian Merlin.

A WONFERDUL TIME TO ENJOY THE CRANE SPECTACULAR IS LATE FEBRUARY, WHEN UP TO 50.000 CRANES CAN CONGREGATE HERE 

Day 2. The raising is a very special moment as thousands of cranes start to move from their resting place inside the lagoon to the farm lands around. We will enjoy this unforgettable moment fromm an unique view point. We will spend most of the day looking for some of the specialities living around the lagoon, including Stone Curlew, Thekla Lark, Calandra Lark, Dunpont’s Lark, Golden Eagle, Hen Harrier, Bluethroat or Merlin. In the late afternoon transfer to Belchite and our new accommodation for 2 nights. This wetland is also remarkable in migration, as there are some records on Aquatic Warbler during early August!

Day 3. During the morning we will try for the very elusive and secretive Dupont’s Lark nearby our accommodation. During the day we will also have good chaces for Pin-tailed & Black-bellied Sandgrouses along with Red-billed Choughs, Spectacled & Dartford Warblers, Black Wheatear, Little Owl and Iberian Grey Shrikes.

Day 4. In our way back to Barcelona, we will make some stops in the way providing with more chances for Great & Little Bustards, Sandgrouses and we may try for Wallcreeper in a pair of corners! If timing allows, we will enjoy a final stop in a different wetland where we will have chances for Bluethroat, Penduline Tit, Western Swamphen, and even Moustached Warbler.
