Llobregat Delta & scrublands

Birdwatching in Barcelona
. Barcelona is the city with the highest variety of birdlife in Spain thanks to the many habitats around. Immediatly South of the city there is a wide variety of landscapes that hosts an awesome list of resident and migratory birds.

We'll explore the incredible landscapes of the Garraf Massif. Its extensive low scrubs, garrigues, pine woods and rocky slopes are home for really good birds including Pallid Swift, Bonelli's Eagle, BR Thrush, Common Rock Thrush, Dartford Warbler, Spectacled Warbler, Ortolan Bunting (image below), Thekla Lark, Black-eared Wheatear, Woodchat Shrike, Iberian Grey Shrike, Bee-eater and Black Wheatear.

After exploring the hills we will enjoy marshes, lagoons and meadows in the Llobregat Delta Natural Reserve, which offers key resident species like Hoopoes, Western Swamphens (image above), Little Bittern, Cetti's Warbler, Penduline Tit & Iberian Green Woodpecker; summer visitors, including Squacco and Purple Herons & Audouin's Gull; and winter visitors, such as both Yelkouan and Balearic Shearwaters, Bluethroat, Moustached Warbler & Water Pipit. Despite its location (about 10 kilometres South of Barcelona) over 300 species have been recorded there. The Llobregat Delta is extremely productive during migration, when becomes a hot-spot for waders, passerines & raptors.
